O’ CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN! DUSTIN BROWN FINISHES AVALANCHE IN OVERTIME

101 points in the regular season.

6th place finish in the Western Conference.

A first round playoff series against the Vancouver Canucks.

If you had asked me before this season started whether I would take that and be nearly giddy, I would have answered in the affirmative.

This game was zzzzz in the first two periods. The Kings took 40 minutes off, generated few offensive opportunities and the defense looked disjointed at times. My fellow Kings fans wondered if this was what we would look forward to in the first round of the playoffs. Fortunately, for the third consecutive game, the Kings showed up in the third period. Matt Greene, check that, Jarret Stoll’s right calf, scored the tying goal with less than 5 minutes remaining. In overtime, Dustin Brown reached 6 goals in 6 games by picking up a rebound off Drew Deity’s point shot and with a quick stick handle beat Craig Anderson. The ear to ear smile from Dustin told of two stories – one, a player who is starting to peak at exactly the right time. Two, a Kings team that needed this win to break through a psychological barrier that has plagued them since the Dallas game post Olympic break.

One thing is for certain. The regular season just became irrelevant. It never happened. Take its success and failures and move forward. It doesn’t matter. The Kings are 0-0 as is every other team. We are in the playoffs baby! Let’s make a run! GO KINGS!
