Per the Vancouver Sun, the “Vancouver police are warning people to have fun during the Canucks’ National Hockey League playoff run, but behave. And they may begin early liquor store closures as they did during the 2010 Olympics if the crowds get unruly.”
“It is a tool for us to use to ensure public safety,” Const. Lindsey Houghton said Monday.
I first chuckled when I read this article but then came to realize that Prohibition essentially still exists in this God forsaken land. They never really repealed it, but rather modified it. There are strict limitations on the sale of alcohol in bars and restaurants, and venues that play music. The prices and taxes are nothing short of outrageous. This article wasn’t intended to go into that sort of detail though Vancouver’s recent proposed crack down on people with the audacity to have a good time further confirms that Canada is, as it has been, the loft above the big party.
