The Kings have announced that “Mark Hardy last night resigned from his position on the Kings’ coaching staff. We have no further comment on this matter. The search for a new Kings assistant coach will begin immediately.”
Mark Hardy offered the following statement:
“After 21 years with the Kings organization both as a player and a coach, the decision to leave the team at this time was one of the hardest of my career. My most important priorities are my family and my recovery, and I hope the Kings’ fans will understand my decision. We are grateful for the support and kindness that we have received through the years, especially now.”
His resignation means his criminal case becomes a personal matter and certainly no longer Los Angeles Kings news. As such, Surly and I will likely not be covering the case’s developments further. In some respects, I am glad it is over from the team’s perspective. In another, I am so greatly sad for Mark and his family. I hope he and his family can come out of this with their integrity intact.
