Helene Elliot is reporting that the Kings and Ilya Kovalchuk were unable to reach a consensus. This is according to her twitter report. More to follow as we get more.

I couldn’t find anything in her column yesterday so I assume that this came out today. Not sure why if the parties are not talking.
The whole thing is starting to look like a longshot. I don’t think Dean should spend all of the team’s money then have cap problems later in terms of retaining established players (e.g. Doughty).
If someone will give him a 10 year contract, well then, he may go there.
