I am not bitter. I swear. I just try to see the humor in most things. When I first heard that Kovalchuk had signed with the New Jersey Devils from what has been speculated as a 17 year, $102 million dollar to a 17 year and $150 million contract (practically speaking, outer space v. out of the universe), I first thought of Mrs. Kovalchuk’s good fortune in landing in Newark, the east coast’s answer to Hollywood and where every aspiring singer looks to make a career. Perhaps Mrs. Kovalchuk doesn’t wear the proverbial pants in the family. Perhaps Ilya thought of the, on an average night, 13,000 poor souls at the Prudential Center watching him and reached out. I doubt it. It was probably the money. That much I know. I also know it’s too early to offer a clear opinion on this 18 day abortion. A $6 million dollar per year cap hit is very different than nearly $9 million.
Until then, let’s see if New Jersey fans make their way over to feign offense to this short article…you can generally smell them coming. What? That was funny.
