Coming into this game, the Flames had defeated the Kings 9 consecutive games at the Saddledome. Tonight marked number 10 on October 10, 2010. 10-10-10-10. I may have nightmares.
Positives? A few. Stoll is a faceoff fiend. After letting in a bad goal, Bernier responded nicely by coming up with a big stop and keeping the game close. Williams also had a good game, as did Kopitar on both ends of the ice. Schenn is driving me nuts. Score already. Enough foreplay.
The bad? Plenty. Johnson had a rough second and third. The Kings’ forwards were getting caught deep and, but for the lone goal, they could not generate any sustained pressure against the Flames. Give the opposition credit. They were aggressive in the offensive zone and never backed off even after the lead. 5 on 5 and powerplay, Calgary rushed 4 attackers at all times.
Consolation? Glencross had a great game and he was at one time Ducks’ property. Yeah, it’s not enough for me either.
The reason for this loss was simple and it was a lack of consistent 5 on 5 pressure on the Flames…Jesus, 5 on top of 5…that equals 10…
