Before their home game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night, Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) wasn’t out for warm-ups for the New Jersey Devils. Then he wasn’t on the bench for the New Jersey Devils. Then the team sent the tweet heard ‘round the hockey world:

Kovalchuk is a healthy scratch.

Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record noticed Kovalchuk “working on his game sticks this morning in the locker room after the skate,” seemingly with the intention of playing.

What’s next? Brodeur being waived? Lou Lamoriello resigning? Jeff Vanderbeek announcing that he has sold the team with a “see you beyatches!” banner hanging over center ice? Jay Grossman revealing the 666 etched on his skull?

  1. That’s the most ridiculous thing that I’ve ever heard of. There is no reason for him to not be on the ice, and to have a rookie called up in his place. There is a HUGE story out there as to why this happened.

  2. I didn’t think the Devils had enough players to allow for a healthy scratch. That’s bizarre.

  3. He’s still a fucker and his agent is an asshole…

  4. Wow……hahahaha……already? I hope the schools are better than the Devils, or he’s shooting a 0-fer.
