So, I was at Disneyland today for my daughter’s third birthday. We had breakfast at the PCH Grill. The restaurant is in the Paradise Hotel. It is ideal for little kids because the Disney characters, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy (my daughter’s favorite and who I recently learned is not a horse), Pluto, Donald, Daisy and Stitch…that’s right, the blue alien who I had never met and wouldn’t have known who the hell it was if it was standing next to me at a urinal at Staples Center…all mingle.  Each came over or we went to them and hung out. For those not familiar with the etiquette, these characters do not talk. They, like Bailey, are quite articulate in gestures.

Toward the end of breakfast, Minnie Mouse came over. She gave my daughter a big hug, signed her birthday card and my girl proceeded to enjoy the company of this lovable mouse. I snapped a couple of photos. Eventually, Minnie caught my eye. She pointed at my shirt…my long sleeve Kings’ shirt which proudly displayed “LOS ANGELES” and then “KINGS” with a crown below the latter. I smiled, unclear about the intention. Orange County. Disney characters. Disney owned the Ducks. She made a subtle hockey slap shot motion, pointed again and gave a thumbs up…to the shirt?

“Minnie, are you a hockey fan?” I asked.

She pointed to my shirt and gave…another thumbs up…

“A Kings’ fan?” I asked surprised.

Thumbs up.

I smiled. “And what about the Ducks?”

Thumbs down.

I held out my arms.

We embraced.

Minnie Mouse is a Kings fan.

  1. it’s a beautiful thing!

  2. Goofy’s original name was “Dippy Dawg”.

  3. Thanks for that. I got a good chuckle during finals week. This week will go even better with a victory on Thurday!

  4. Freaking brilliant. :-)

  5. Hope she doesn’t get fired over this! I’ve long considered the Magic Kingdom as something of an Evil Empire. The “no moustache” rule for employees has always pissed me off.
