FLAMES’ BLOGGERS FLAME

Tonight’s 2-1 loss to the L.A. Kings was a sight all too familiar to Flames fans, as the visiting team fell down by a goal in the first period and failed to generate much of a push-back until mid-way through the final frame.

The Flames looked to come into this game riding some momentum from their victory over the Lightning on Tuesday night, and they started this game off with a few good chances, including a disallowed Matt Stajan goal that would have put the visitors up 1-0 . Chances were close in the opening frame, but the Kings took a 1-0 lead on Kyle Clifford’s first NHL goal. L.A. would go on the powerplay shortly thereafter, and would take over for the remainder of the period, facing Kiprusoff to make several good stops, including this one on Jarett Stoll after a Cory Sarich giveaway.

In a game that seemed like deja vu for some reason, the Flames stumbled and bumbled their way to a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles. Kings Rookie Kyle Clifford scored his first NHL goal and Jonathan Quick played an amazing game and kept the Flames off the scoreboard until late in the 3rd period. Before the Flames could beat Quick, Anze Kopitar made it a 2-0 game and that was all the buffer the Kings needed to take the win.

Matt Stajan has just one goal in his last 43 games.

Not exactly what the Calgary Flames are looking for from the former Toronto Maple Leaf who centres the first line between Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla.

More production would be nice from an offensive-minded centre making a cool $3.5 million a season.

“It’s frustrating,” an exasperated Stajan said Thursday night in the aftermath of a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. “Obviously, we want to string some wins together. We want to turn this thing around. We can’t get over that hump right now.

A break like that might have helped.”
