EVGENI NABOKOV IS A WEASEL & SHOULD BE SUSPENDED

Professional athletes often get a reputation of being selfish and narcissistic. We see that most in other sports like Football, Baseball and Basketball. Hockey players are generally down to earth and good guys who care about the sport, its image and put team and game before themselves. Evgeni Nabokov is the exception to that exception. He is a weasel and his failure to report to the New York Islanders puts him in the same category as the whiny basketball player who thinks the world revolves around his ego.

Pierre LeBrun conducted an interview with Evgeni Nabokov and posted an article today. Here is what Nabokov had to say:

“I think I’m going to stay home for now, I’m sticking with my decision,” Nabokov told ESPN.com from his home in San Jose. “It’s nothing against the Islanders and their organization. It’s nothing to do with that. It’s just that I’m at the point in my career where I want to help a team win in the playoffs. I don’t see how I could help the Islanders or what I could do for them. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. And I hope they understand that.”

That’s rich. You couldn’t help your stacked San Jose Sharks team win a damn thing in the playoffs all these past seasons. Now, when you are slower and just as dumb, you think you want to “help” another team? To state that you don’t know what you could do for the Islanders shows why you are a selfish idiot. You could help them win. That’s what goaltenders do. They help their teams get the W.

“I understand the rules,” said Nabokov, who signed a one-year, $570,000 deal with the Wings. “We’re not stupid, we knew what was going on before we made the decision. But I made this decision because the goal was to play with Detroit.”

So you knew the rules going in and you were predetermined not to follow them. We can now add malicious to selfish idiot.

“I want to clear something up,” said Nabokov. “Everybody wrote that Garth Snow left me messages. I have no messages on my phone from him. I didn’t talk to him. So I want to clear that up. He may have tried to reach me but there’s no message from him. I still haven’t talked to him.”

So you know he tried to reach you but he didn’t leave a message. That’s cute. I am surprised Pierre didn’t ask him if he intends to call Snow back.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Nabokov. “I just hope they will understand where I’m coming from. That’s all.”

I am sure they understand what a prima donna they are getting.

So for now, he doesn’t plan on reporting to the Islanders. “Right now, that’s right,” Nabokov said. “I was surprised they picked me up. I was like, ‘Wow, what’s the point?”‘

He brings up a good point here. What is the point? His wife is a high level executive in Silicon Valley. He can stay home, put on a dress and make sure the house is tidy and a warm meal is ready when she gets home. Put on something tight after dinner Evgeni. At least give your wife the respect of knowing you’re the same little bitch she married.

  1. This sort of BS needs to be rooted out of the next CBA. What is the point of putting these guys on waivers, getting claimed by a different team than the team that they signed for, and then going through all this weaselly behavior to get out of playing for the team that claimed them. It makes the game look bad unnecessarily.

  2. Suspended or at the very least he should not get a dime of pay. News flash: He was on a Cup contender and they didn’t want him. He must have sucked.

If he still gets a paycheck that is a disgrace…

  3. I fail to see the problem here: he’s within his right to refuse to report, he knows the consequences (can’t play for the remainder of the season), the Islanders knew there was a chance he’d refuse. Everybody involved is a grown-up.

If the Isles want to take a punitive approach they can try to get the NHL to make him play in the Island next year. I just don’t thinks that’s merited, but that’s their prerogative

Do I respect Nabokov for his decision. No, emphatically Hell No. He is indeed a weasel

The rule is twisted and bizarre. There needs to be some way t allow the team that does the work to get the player yet present the last season addition of ringers. Maybe these complicated rules should only apply after the trade deadline; put a simpler process in before the deadline.

Where does his wife work? They meet when he was in Lexington, KY and she was a “student and part-time waitress.” There aren’t many folks from Lexington that are execs in Silicon Valley. Even if she went to Transylvania University instead of UK, I find that hard to believe. (I’m not knocking KY; I grew up in Covington, KY.)

  4. I could not agree with you more. Go run back to the KHL, you spoiled brat.

  5. I completely agree that Nabokov is a Weazel for not reporting. But, I’m also a bit perplexed as to why the Islanders would bother claiming him when they know their season is a bust.

  6. Players go to the KHL for the cash. It did not work out for him. So he came back to the NHL. Detroit did not want him.

Not a whole lot of options. Probably should just retire.

  7. f all of you! Nabokov deserves to be on a great playoff playing team! islanders stink!

    • He had his chances both in SJ and during the summer to make sure that happened. He screwed the pooch — that’s not the Isles fault.

      The rules are the rules…

BTW, I deserve lots of things I’m never going to get. This is as much a good thing as bad.

  8. Nabby isn’t much of a professional…

  9. He’s been suspended. Now the Isles should ask for the punitive “tolling” of his contract. Make him play a full year in Uniondale.
