Spartans! Prepare for glory…

Does anybody else worry that:
* The willingness to fight on when his opponent has hit the ice,
* The tendency to throw forearms and elbows, and,
* Bissonette’s comments that he “jumps” players but then won’t fight the big guys (in spite of seeing him going at it 2X with Parros in the clip)
could lead to someone taking a serious whack with the intent to hurt him.
I’m all for his being tough, standing up for the team, earning his keep in part by fighting. But really, I’d rather have Westgarth as our sacrificial lamb. Clifford has some ability to play — potentially even on the 2nd line; Westie is not so lucky…
Maybe I’m just a pussy.
Plus it creeps me out that in his helmet he looks frighteningly like Diedrich Bader from the Drew Carey Show http://cgi.ebay.com/Original-Photo-C4155-Diedrich-Bader-Drew-Carey-Show-/380262308162#ht_500wt_922
Every good army needs some good criminals
And some of those criminals can ultimately become officers…
Westy worked with him on his fighting and taught him a few things about leverage. Too bad he didn’t teach Westy how to pick a fight, becuase Westy would better serve the Kings by taking on some of those fights and serving the time in the box. Next time (wether you like it or not, he will be) Westy is in the line up I hope he has figured out how to “not take no” for an answer.
Thanks for posting!
I find it intimidating that both Clifford and Simmonds are willing to pull off the helmet.
I’m so impressed with this kid and how he has progressed, both as a player and a fighter. To answer VJ’s question, no I’m not really too worried about someone “going after him” over his tactics. He’s not the only guy in the league that delivers the occasional punch after the guy is down, and Kyle usually stops when the linesmen get in, the elbows that you see there are incidental, and if you watch enough fight clips ( I can suggest a website if you want to check me on this) they happen in many fights. I don’t think that Clifford “jumps” guys, but he is good at getting the first shot in, and there’s nothing wrong with that. He has enough sense to leave the John Scott’s and Derek Boogaard’s of the league to Westgarth. Fighting is part of this kid’s package, and it’s going to be in his game for a long, long time, and I, for one, am grateful to him for it.
I’ve spent a fair amount of time over at HockeyFights.com…
Something you and I can disagree on.
Gotta love the ECHL (I’m partial to the Everblades) and the SPHL.
Really, when you’ve sunk to the SPHL you need to admit that being hamfisted is the only way out. Who says hockey can’t survive in the South? It’s just the NHL that can’t.
