TOP 10 REASONS MURRAY KEPT HIS HANDS TO HIMSELF

What do you do immediately after you win a playoff series?

Well if your name is Devin Setoguchi or you are a 12 year old girl, you bust out your phone and tweet away.

Setoguchi’s tweet, which I wont post here because my feelings on twitter go something to the effect of ‘fuck twitter’, drew attention to the fact that Kings’ coach Terry Murray did not go through the handshake line at center ice after the Sharks series clinching OT goal in game 6. So of course, there is some controversy.

Not being a senior citizen, I’m not sure what was going through Murray’s head (and to be perfectly honest on the issue, I don’t really give a hoot), but that doesn’t mean I can’t guess. Besides, the series may be over but I will bite my own tongue off before I pass up another golden opportunity to take pot shots at the San Jose Sharks.

So here they are, the top 10 reasons that Murray did not go through the line and shake all the player’s hands.

10. Douglas Murray smells like Viking piss.

9. Out of respect as he wouldn’t be able to hold in his laughter if he had to see Thornton’s ‘C’ that close.

8. It was getting late and he had line changes to make before going to bed.

7. Boyle’s face.

6. He stays purposefully constipated during the hockey season and couldn’t wait to take his first shit since September.

5. He was demonstrating his system to his players by not going to the center of the ice.

4. Senility.

3. He would have charged McGinn.

2. Heatley’s face.

1. He was doing his best impression of Antii Neimi and disappearing.

  1. lol @ #5 & #8.

  2. In the mist of my shock and heartbreak most of the series ending obigatory handshake line was a bit of a blur( and it is recorded for another time when I have healed ) but I did notice no Murray.
No excuse.. I see bad sportsmanship..

    • @Hockey Jockey,

Other than coaches traditionally don’t participate because they see it as a player ritual? Pull your head out of your ass. Old news.

      • Then why did he shake hands with Vancouver from center ice last season? If it was his normal MO to just shake the hands of the coaches, then no problem, but why the inconsistencies? Eliminated in game 6 of the first round at home both seasons.

Oh right, “win and you’re in!” Murray is nothing but consistent. ;)

  3. #1 is my fave….you know you got to practice for those magic acts….how about the fantastic sawing a shark in half trick he is working on??? Bye Bye Heatley!

  4. ‘Other than coaches traditionally’
what type of wording is this?
I have seen coaches out on the ice for the tradional handshake.
I am not going to take the time to look up/ give presedent because I do not think you are worth the time.. my head is firmly on my shoulders thank you. Have to wonder where you keep yours
    GO KINGS GO !!!

  5. FWIW, I have seen it both ways. This was non-news to me but I did get a chuckle out of Seta goochi goochi goo and the other idiot (Mayers?) tweeting about it. 12 year old girl is right. “Daddy, coach Murray was mean to us!” whaaaaaaa…

  6. This is great. I love #5 and #1, definitely hit the nail on the head with those! Still enjoying your humorous takes!

  7. #5 takes the prize for most true. I do think it is unique to the NHL. I did it playing sports as a kid, and like seeing it at the end of the playoff round in the NHL. It shows class. There clearly is no rule stating that you have to, and wether TM didn’t think it was important, or wanted to make a statement, the rest of the league looked at it as TM pouting. Maybe that was his intention all along, to say screw you guys, maybe it wasn’t, and he was just saying OOps! I forgot, and have never seen that happen before. Just like when he could of pulled his goalie for a 6 on 3 to try and tie the game.
