A very reliable source has advised me that the LA Kings have made a formal offer to Nicolas Deslauriers and await a response. The offer is a fair one and one the Deslauriers camp is expected to accept. We don’t anticipate any holdup but, as the cliché goes, never say never. Expect to hear something as early as tomorrow, possibly even tonight.

For those unfamiliar with Nicolas, he is a defenseman (6’0, 200 pounds), an exceptional skater and comes with hockey sense that may rival our own Drew Doughty. The book on Deslauriers is that he is a complete package – defense, offense, edgy and won’t hesitate to drop the gloves though I expect the defensive game will be the area that will need attention and improvement in the transition to the professional game. He isn’t just “fast.” He can flat out fly with the puck on his stick and stickhandle with the best of them in the Q. He was a 2009 third round selection. Do you think the LA Kings’ have a bit of a log jam in good young defensemen? It’s a good problem to have. GO KINGS!

  1. YAY! I admit to have never seen him play in person, but I have kept regular tabs on him (as I do with a lot of Kings prospects). Numbers don’t lie, but they don’t tell the whole story either. So far every Kingsfan I’ve talked too, or any scouting report I’ve read on the guy says he’s an excellent prospect, worthy of a contract, and has a bright future. Good news.
