Mmmmm, discipline hearings. Brings back such good memories of elementary school.
I think the ice did more damage than Rome did.
… If Aaron Rome’s name were spelled “S-c-o-t-t S-t-e-v-e-n-s”, we wouldn’t even be having any discussion about a disciplinary hearing. The talk would be more like “Hey – man up, Princess Horton. Keep your head up next time.”
ha ha. I actually thought about the Scott Stevens hit the moment I saw it. I haven’t gone back and looked at it but was it that late? The checking part of the game was also very different back then. Stevens wouldn’t get away with a significant amount of his hits.
Rome got 4 games (carries over to 2011-12 season if the finals only goes 6 games).
The “significant injury” was cited as part of the reason for the suspension.
What happens from here on out if there’s another Chara/Paciorety type hit (i.e., sever injury but indeterminable intent)?
All-in-all, I think it’s a good decision.
Jim
Question: Due to the suspension, if Vancouver wins the cup, does Rome get his name on it?
Yes, he would get his name on the cup if they won.
Yes, the NHL already said he can participate in the on ice celebration.
