For the second straight season, the Los Angeles Kings made the playoffs and, for the second straight season, they were bounced in the first round.

Off-Season Game Plan looks at a deep Kings organization that deserved a better fate than having their best player get injured in the final weeks of the season and what they can do to put together another playoff contender next season.

The Kings have been exceedingly patient, building through the draft and developing their prospects under GM Dean Lombardi and that organizational depth does give them some flexibility but, at some point, the team will have to move beyond first-round fodder.

  1. I am hoping there will be enough money in the cap to keep ZUS!!! He came through in clutch in important games. Also, he is an amazing penalty killer!! I love him.

  2. Rumor being spun right now about huge deal between Calgary & Ottawa involving as many as 5 players……why does this apply to the Kings?

The deal involves LA & Ottawa making a deal first, bringing a LA player native to Calgary to Ottawa

This Calgary native is highly desired, do your homework, not hard……Unless Banff, is a suburb of Calgary, we have only One other player from Alberta in our system.

What could Deano be getting in return…..Hmmm

Also, Rumor the Kings are coveting Joel Ward of Nashville…..may be an improvement over Poni, but this guy is a Terry Murray style of player, and that Means The Tampon system will be back.

    BUT these are just RUMORS

    • Just what we need, another 200+ lbs player lacking a mean streak. We already have a Penner. He did average better than a point per game in the playoffs, which would fit in with DL’s philosophy of paying playoff performers for a solid showing in the playoffs, and he can play the left side just as effectively.

Kaos theorists are going to have a field day, complaining that with all the high priced superstars out there, DL went Statis Quo, and isn’t serious about winning.

Realists will complain about them saying our situation is what it is, but next year we’ll have the capspace.

      Ahhh, the joys of giving.

    • Per my homework, that Calgary native is Kozun (who was actually born in L.A.). Really, he’s highly desired? Or did I fail my homework assignment?

If he’s being discussed in a trade with Calgary, we’ll probably make out pretty good with that one.
