Westgarth In, Hunter Out, Drewiske In, Martinez Out? Wow.

If you, like me, have a file drawer in your head for Terry Murray’s moves, file this under random, nonsensical lineup changes not based on fact or reason.

It seems Trent Hunter is Murray’s 2011-2012 scapegoat, at least so far. He is replaced by Kevin Westgarth, a fan favorite for some, but most would agree offensively and defensively unproductive. Westgarth will make our 4th line slower and a greater defensive liability. Given Terry Murray’s unwillingness to match lines, I don’t look forward to seeing Westgarth out there when the Flyers’ top line jumps on the ice, mid shift.

The move with the bigger what the hell factor is sitting Alec Martinez. When was Davis’ last game? February? Let’s throw him in against the Flyers and sit Martinez who, while he hasn’t put up any goals or assists, is an excellent skater, has played well defensively (but for a couple of lapses from which Doughty & Johnson have also suffered), has found lanes to get the shots through despite our offensive structure, and has one of the better releases. All this move does is take much needed offensive potential away and replaces it with a one-dimensional defenseman with average skating ability who has shown himself to be, at best, inconsistent.

I am trying to keep a positive outlook on the season and I will forget this move the moment the puck drops but, more and more, it looks like we are in store for more senseless and random moves by our head coach in an attempt to find a solution in all the wrong places because his play book is filled with doodles.

The Kings need a win tonight. I continue to believe we are talented enough to overcome our offensive structure.

  1. My dissatisfaction with TM grows every day. It could be because read this blog. I usually tend to side with someone who has more experience and knowledge than I do on a given subject. I like the way Martinez plays and he got the attention of the versus commentators in the opening game against the rangers. To take him out when he has been playing so well seems not only unwise but down right idiotic.

Is TM just using a game spinner to pick lines then come puck drop hope for the best outcome?

Philly seems like a hard building to play in. It’s going to be a great game. However this information has made me upset cause I like Martinez.

Hopefully the fight that Westgarth inevitably gets in, he wins. And hopefully it’s Pronger and he gets injured for the whole season :)

    Go Kings!!!

  2. Alec is out? Really TM? I seriously wonder what goes through that coconut of yours sometimes.

This makes as much sense as you positioning Kopitar as a safety valve on a faceoff -farthest from the offensive goal- when we’re down by one, with our goalie pulled and looking to score. Ya, TM, put your most skilled player farthest from the objective. Am I the only one who thinks that’s odd?

I’m going to assume AM has some kind of boo-boo which requires a couple days of rest. That’s what I’m sticking with in my own mind. :)

Dear hockey gods, please give me strength to see the wisdom, for we are only 4 games into the season and I’m having a difficult time maintaining my patients.

I didn’t realize how hard it would be to root for a Kings’ team that has such high expectations. This is difficult!

Ok, I got that twinge of anger out….I feel better.

Back to a Happy Kings fan. Time to kick some ass, boys!
