Flames GM, Jay Feaster is…uh…flaming mad. From Pierre LeBrun of ESPN:

I’m not going to sit around and wait. There is urgency here. There’s very much a sense of urgency. We kept this group together for a reason this summer. We articulated what that was and articulated to the players. They talked about the need to get off to a good start. We saw what happened last season when you dig yourself a hole. We played like our pants were on fire in the second half last year and it [still] wasn’t enough. We’re all paying lip service to what we needed to do. Now we need to do it.

Obviously I’m making phone calls and people are making phone calls to me. It’s not something I’m looking to do, I want to win with this group. That’s what I want to do.

We like the team we have. But we talked repeatedly about it all summer and in camp, the need to get off to a good start.

The Flames are off to a 2-3-1 start. They are 12th in the West. Let the Jarome Iginla trade rumors commence. I don’t know what they’re complaining about. They are ahead of San Jose.

I hate the Red Wings. 5-0 to start the season. Just once, I would like to see their winged wheel outside the top 3 in the Western Conference. Their slogan this season is, “It’s more than hockey.” Really? God, I hope the “more” isn’t basketball. I can’t survive another lockout.

Colorado and Dallas are off to good starts. Dallas disposed of Anaheim last night. I watched the whole game. A new team system, especially on defense. They take away the middle of the ice and play to either block the shot or outnumber the attackers to clear rebounds. This low zone style allows shots from the point and other areas, almost at will. I know Terry Murray is salivating…”shot mentality” he speaks with a crazed eye and zombie like determination. I kid, Terry. Since we seem to have developed (fingers, toes and other members of anatomy crossed for good luck) a balanced attack, I wonder how successful their defense will be against us?

Did you hear what the Vancouver Province wrote about Rubber Toe Luongo and the proposed trade to Tampa for Vinny Lecavalier? Did you read Mike Gillis’ response? Priceless. Check it out on Puck Daddy. My personal favorite part was Wayne Moriarty, The Province’s Editor-in-Chief’s, response to Gillis’ whining:

The only other time I’ve ever met Mr. Gillis, I’ll be quite honest, he was quite rude to me. He couldn’t even reach out and shake my hand. But this wasn’t about Mike. If I was Mike, I’d be more concerned that 14,000 of his premium customers were booing his number one asset. Mike’s discussion around being accountable and going down to the dressing room, I mean, give me Luongo’s phone number, I’ll read him the editorial. That’s just machismo garbage, it makes no difference to me.

POW! Love it.

So, how about those Sharks? Yeah…hey, at least we know Douglas Murray can take a punch.

The cat’s out of the bag. They tried to hide it in all the hype but you can only fool people for so long. The Winnipeg Jets’ new franchise is just the Atlanta Thrashers in a different jersey.

The Washington Capitals are off to a 6-0 start. They are poised once again to elevate their fan base’s expectations only to decimate it in the post season.

If Montreal, who is second to last in the Eastern Conference, doesn’t turn this ship around soon, the Toronto Maple Leafs may actually have good cause to gloat. Yikes.

Honest question, does anyone else miss Sidney Crosby? I know the NHL marketing guys must be bored out of their collective minds.
