L.A. Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks Game Day: No Loser Talk Allowed

There are a few things that annoy me.

One of them is hearing or reading things like the L.A. Kings better be careful (or better be on their game) because the Vancouver Canucks are coming into tonight’s match pissed off after shitting the bed against Anaheim. As if a pissed off versus a pissed on Vancouver Canucks team is going to make a difference in how the L.A. Kings prepare for the game or approach it.

It’s ignorant talk.

Sutter: Well boys, Vancouver is coming in pissed off. I guess that means the game plan is out today.

Several Players: Oh no, coach! What do we do?

Sutter: I don’t know. Jamie, what do you think?

Kompon: You said I wasn’t allowed to talk to the players anymore.

Sutter: I did say that…Bernie, any thoughts?

Nicholls: What? Sorry, I was googling a picture of Matt Greene’s girlfriend…Greener, nice buddy. Very nice.

Sutter: Let me see that later. John? Any ideas?

Stevens: What would Surly & Scribe tell us to do?

Greene: Break heads…

Johnson: Have the Sisters spitting blood…

Williams: Put Burrows’ face through Luongo’s ass…

Kompon: Fire me…sorry, I just wanted to feel involved.

Voynov:  надрать задницу чертов!

Loktionov: Exactly!

Richards: [whispering to Kopi] who the fuck are Surly & Scribe?

Quick: Fuck Vancouver! I am Jonathan Mother Fucking Quick!

Johnson: [offended]

Clifford: Let’s kick some fucking ass!

Players: [rising up] Yeah!!

GO KINGS GO!

GO KINGS GO!

I got a nice chuckle at this one. Lets go KINGS!

  2. Kings played well against them last time we played them. They just have to skate with them, and push the tempo like they did in LA. The Kings didn’t push the tempo last game (tired, beaten, bruised, or what ever the reason), and it hurt them.

Take the fight to them and don’t chase the play, stay ahead of it. Kings are definately a better team when the tempo is faster, and Sutter has been trying to speed up the play through the puck (like with the one touch passing at the points during the power play). Speed the game up, and win the game.

Neutral zone flow is a must. Keep the puck going forward. The Canucks aren’t a trap type team, and don’t collapse into the defensive zone with all 5 players either. They are (for all inents and purposes) a Left Wing lock team.

Their system depends on forward backpressure through the neutral zone, and the only way to break it is to transition it faster then their forwards can backcheck.

Passive coverage to the outside in the defensive zone allows for too much skating room, and will ultimately shrink the defensive coverage to home plate. Tight checking all the way to the boards on 1 on 1 coverage is the only way to disrupt their forecheck, and keep their forecheck expanded.

Watch for the cycle back towards the front of the net in tight defensively, and activate D to box out before the play developes.

  3. Also, Vancouver likes to have at least 1 player away from the puck always cycling at the puck carrier defensively.

They will always have 1 player going strait at the puck regardless of zone, and so the Kings will have less time to make decisions then they normally do. If they try to slow it down, and use controlled breakouts to maintain possession, they’ll be playing right into their hands, and end up playing dump and chase all night..

  4. The bottom line Dominick is this: The game against a team like Vancouver is won or lost between the dots and below the top of the circles in the offensive and defensive zones.

  5. I’m up here in Vancouver and I will be at the game tonight, representing with my purple and gold! Can’t wait to high five the other Kings fans who will be in attendance, when we fucking DESTROY the goddamn Casucks!!!

I’m going to the game with 5 Vansnoozer buddies of mine, who will all be decked out in their blue and green, or black and orange, or blue and salmon, or whatever logo/colour combo they’ve settled on for this year! (Geez, these guys change jerseys about as often as the Kings!)

    • Way to represent, maybe accidantally spill a beer or three on those green guys to the crotch region. If I was there, I would at the very least figure out which bathroom they use and splash some water inadvertantly.

… This should be required reading for anyone posting on this site.

I’ve never known coaches or players on any given team prepare to lose any given game.

      • … I believe Cammalleri said the Habs were playing with a “losing mentality”. That’s not the same as preparing to lose games.

The Kings, for quite a while this season, were doing the exact same thing. I’m sure Murray and the coaches were preparing this team to win, but the players were playing with a losing mentality – there was a lack of confidence, a lack of intensity, and a negative attitude. I don’t believe the players prepared to lose games, but I do think their pre-game preparation to win was consistently falling apart as the individual games would drag on and the players kept seeing low numbers on the scoreboard.

In the game against Edmonton, as well as the game against Winnipeg, I saw a lot of that same mentality rear its ugly head again. I’m willing to understand if it was a fatigue issue with both of those games, but a losing mentality isn’t something that’s just going to disappear overnight. I think Sutter’s done a good job trying to improve that attitude, as he outwardly appears to be trying to build up confidence of players on the bench, and the tweaks to the game plan seem to lean toward the aggressive side rather than the passive side. I also believe that the very fact the Kings changed coaches was enough for each individual player to change his attitude to a certain degree.

  7. We played a killer game against those nuckleheads New Years Eve..it was a great exit to ’11.
So let’s bring our Attitude and Gritty game tonight.
On an aside, watching replay of Dallas game from last Thursday amd Miller said at that point the Kings were the #1 team in hits! I didn’t think we were that physical..but keep it up Boys!
    GO KINGS GO!!!

  8. I do like that we are not giving them the blue line. Also, even though the Nucks are forechecking hard, Kings D are not panicking and calmly getting it out. All very good defensive signs.

  9. … Again, the Kings got a break – the rebound sliding directly to Williams – and again, the Kings convert it.

Williams is getting his groove back. I’m happy for him.

    • Willie the STUD tonight ..absolutely getting back
on track ..this is our little dynamo we can brag about.
      Good road trip for us.
Mikey needed that game winning SO goal ..think
he is a bit down on himself for not doing much lately. Good for him! Guys were happy for him as well.
      GO KINGS GO!!!

  10. A little slower than the first for the Kings, but with a shorter trip to the bench, I suspect the pace will pick up better in the 3rd.

  11. I did say “Passive coverage to the outside in the defensive zone allows for too much skating room”.

  12. Am getting tired of knockig wood all the time after Bob Miller’s “facts!” I’ve been watching and listening to Mr. Miller, love the man…….pow! PP goal right after Bob’s mention of the King’s greT PK. My knuckles are sore, Damnit! Go Kings Go!!!
Is it just me noticing this? He used to leave it at percentages. Now, ie., ” The Kings have Killed 40 straight PP’s, And Quick sv% is unreal. Paraphrased of course, but it’s drivin’ me barshit crazy

  14. The Kings may be getting closer. Another very good game. Seems like there is more open ice since Sutter’s arrival. It’s a blast to watch them play now.

    GO Kings Go!!

  15. Typical Vancouver Game…wouldn’t miss it. A few dives, whining about unfair calls, typical. Love to hate them.

  16. Я не понимаю, шутка это Войнов. Что ебать он сказал, Черт!
