Russians, Dogs & Bitches

I woke up this morning with a big smile.

I high-fived several people at work.

Then I scowled.

Brendan Shanahan proved himself a bitch, scared of taking out a star player after 1 playoff game when he fined Shea Weber only $2500 for treating Henrik Zetterberg’s head like a gorilla trying to open a coconut. It does not give me a good feeling that the bitch Byron Bitz will receive the suspension he deserves for taking out our snarling dog, Kyle Clifford, who will not play tomorrow.

Which brings us to Russians.

Will Andrei Loktionov take the open lineup spot, or will Kevin Westgarth?

Of course I want Loktionov, but it begs an interesting question. Loktionov brings a better defensive game than Westgarth, without a doubt. Crucial against a high powered Canucks team when they get the last change. Do you want Westgarth out there against Burrows and Sedin after an icing call?

However without Clifford we lose a large degree of bite to our game, against a team that is perfectly happy making this series one replete with cat fights, bitch hits and play as dirty as their stars are ugly.

Which player Sutter chooses will speak towards what kind of series the Kings want to play. Get down to their level or ignore and let them throw their useless weight around? I still vote for Loki.

Finally, back to bitches, but still on Russians, this site blew up this morning. Oddly, because of this post.  People are continuously googling “HC Metallurg Cheerleaders”, presumably to watch this video:

Apparently there is an Internet run on naked, Russian women.  Not a bad thing.

It’s probably because our boobs were so good last night.

GO KINGS!

  1. Looks to me that one of these Russian women signed up for Riot City showgirls at Rogers Arena.

  2. No. I i want the unedited version. No shame in my game.

  3. Really no need to get on their level if they’re taking 8 calls and our guys carry on completely unphased by it all.

  4. Westy is not the calibar player we need for this playoff..only seen a couple of games where he had some decent plays..mostly it is the poor fights he puts himself in.
Lokti on the other hand..skillful but damn he is small..Would he be able to withstand the brutality that is vancouver? You know he will try andnot back down ..just don’t want to see him helpless in the den of aholes that are the nucks …
    GO KINGS GO!!!

  5. Holy crap- if Weber got nothing for that I’m a little scared to see what’s going to happen in the playoffs this year. I mean, I don’t want to see the Redwings franchise win another game just as badly as the next guy but not at the cost of someone’s head. If this is the brand of playoff hockey we’re playing we can’t afford to not have Westy out there just in case someone goes Shea-Weber on Kopi or doughty.

I would love to see Loki back out there but now that one of the dirtiest teams in hockey knows they can get away with it, all bets are off.

    • Weber did look like a fucking asshole. I guess the best you can say for it is that he lost control of himself.

But how can you look at what he did and argue he didn’t target Zetterberg’s head, didn’t make actual contact with his head, didn’t hit him when he wasn’t looking, and didn’t mean to injure him?

A $2,500 fine? Jesus fucking Christ. That doesn’t even scratch his $7.5-mil salary — and he doesn’t have to scratch it, since he gets extra playoff dough, over and above his contract, even if the Preds lose this series.

  6. like russian girls, i never say nyet, to kevin westgarth being on the ice. i know that sounds crazy, but other than nolan, do we have ANY players that possibly could win a fight? i swear, by my own personal count we have won 2, maybe 3 fights this year. (where the winner was clearly decided, and not just a hugging match) the kings thankfully brought the kitchen sink last night, but we need to pound someone’s face in. i would say henrik sedin, but he’s already ugly and i don’t think it gets any worse. with the loss of clifford, we also lose someone who could possibly change, dare i say it, the momentum of the game with a successful fight. lokti is much too little to even pose a threat physically. so with that said, i don’t think it’s a HORRIBLE choice given the circumstances, but it’s not a bad one.

  7. Surly….. you guys are sort of like my relationship with South Park. I personally don’t love the stuff thats a bit gross and over the top, but when they do the subtle stuff it has me on the floor.

he fined Shea Weber only $2500 for treating Henrik Zetterberg’s head like a gorilla trying to open a coconut.
A riot. Love how you guys write. What I don’t love so much is the result though. What in God’s name was he thinking (Shanahan). I think he’s done a very good job this year, but that’s not on at all to make a statement in the playoffs.
Yeah, that 2grand and 1half will make Weber think twice, thrice and on before doing it next time.

That stinks. What a sad state of affairs.

    • From the lack of suspensions since the break I got the impression that the NHL had made a concious decision to let some of the chippiness and hitting back in the game.

  8. also, one of the comments jim fox made in the beginning of the broadcast was how the bruins overall strategy in the stanley cup final was to “wear down” the canucks. i feel this strategy works best for us, considering we just recently unlearned terry murray’s famous dump & chase style offense. if clifford potentially misses the series due to this “upper body injury,” which player has the endurance to last the series?

  9. Bitz suspended two games for Clifford hit. I have to say that it seems fair and I’m amazed it actually happened.

    • Fair? Hardly. Bitz is lump. Might as well ordered him to injure a King.

Even the Vancouver Sun was commenting on how hated Vancouver is. Said all the late game “chatting” was over “…the dives Kesler took.”.

      • Two games is quite a bit in a seven game series. I know that Bitz is basically the most replaceable guy in the room, but it’s not like Shanahan could suspend a more important player. He has to suspend the guy who made the hit, and the bottom line is that since that guy is Bitz, Shanny could have given him half way into next season, and the Canucks wouldn’t be bothered at by it at all. It’s not about the cost of the Canucks losing his services in this case, it’s about making a statement that violations will be punished even in the playoffs.

Now, only fining Weber, and then suspending this clown…what kind of message does that send. Not sure it’s the message they really want.

        • Your dead on, espceicllay as to the mixed message in respect to Webber. I watched the video. Hard to tell if I am reading into it but it appeared Webber was smiling until he realized the ref was standing behind him.

        • “Now, only fining Weber, and then suspending this clown…what kind of message does that send. Not sure it’s the message they really want.”

Man, you can say that twice.

I can imagine Weber saying, “$2,500, eh? . . . Here’s another five grand. Now lemme at Hudler and Datsyuk.”

    • Nice. Better than nothing. I believe Scribe will have something up about it later tonight.

Not like losing Bitz hurts the Canucks at all, but justice is justice.

    • I’m not that hit on Cliffy was pretty vicious. The had plenty of time and space to hold up. He knew what he was doing and he could have slowed down or put his arm out to make contact but going in full force like that while Cliffy had both hands on his stick and being slightly bent over, good call by Shannahan.

  10. Management would not allow the girls in. Kesler would pick up a STD and spread it to the Sendins and Burrows (and not by sharing toothbrushes)

  11. def gotta put Lok in there. Hopefully Cliff can start feeling good and game ready real soon. This Bitz btich is a pile of shit.

And I don’t know how Shea Web doesn’t get a game for that. I get that the $2500 is max allowable but if anything that should incentivize the league to start suspending instead. Get ready for some embarrassing news here boys. that fine for Shea Web is equivalent to $16 from a $50,000 salary.

  12. I wonder which blogger will reveal who gets the spot before the “insider”
