Is This Intended As Humor? Or Is This What They Call Humor In Vancouver?

“Kings Worried About Resurgence of Canucks. Hire Big Shot Hollywood Consultant for Help”

It’s true, the Kings have hired on one of the entertainment industry’s heavyweights to help “bolster” their chances for ending the series when it recommences on Sunday.

Hal Epstein of Hal Epstein Inc. is responsible for such entertainment innovations as:

1. “Waving your hands in the air like you just don’t care.” Until Epstein came along, people were just encouraged to “wave in an apathetic, uncaring manner.”

2. Unionizing Fluffers.

3. Leading a think tank made up of bio chemists, theologians, and scientists to clone an actress made from a troll doll, kitten DNA, and Paula Poundstone. You’re welcome, Zooey Deschanel.

Epstein was kind enough to share with me some of his ideas to help the Kings get over the edge and eliminate the Canucks on Sunday:

Click on the Province link for the rest of this abortion and tell me if you “get it” because I’d like to think Surly & I have a damn good sense of humor and, speaking for myself, this sucked something fierce.

  1. I don’t get it.

  2. This guy needs to try a different combination of medications. He is not funny and
is all over the place. I worry when I see this kind of poor writing that it endangers the 1st Ammendment. Clearly this guy is abusing his right to free speech and could fuck it up for all of us. Surly and Scribe….don’t read any more of this guys crappy attempts at being funny as it might wear off on you. Your blogs are funny and insightful. This guy is neither.

  3. Waste of my reading time…
    GO KINGS GO!!!

  4. Name checking Paula Poundstone takes some guts. Doesn’t evidence any sense of humour, but shows a dogged determnination to soldier on, even in the face of 10 years worth of more relevant, current reference points. Wait, I have one…..
The Sedin Twins are the Milli Vanilli of NHL duos; flashy, and swell dancers, but crumbly in the face of the harsh glare of notoreity.

  5. I refuse to click the link. I’m a little upset you provided one.

  6. “Abortion” or “Aberration”? I’ve seen you use that word a few times and can’t figure out why. Knowing you monkeys are some of the smartest out there, it got me to wondering why. I must be missing something.

  7. I hate that town and their fucking fans

  8. I read that TWICE and was still shaking my head. I have no idea what the hell that was.

  9. Well, that was pretty fuckin stupid.

  10. Speaking of things that aren’t funny, what in the fuck is Brian Hayward doing on NBC sports? It’s one thing for a Mickey Mouse organization to employ that moron, but a national network? I’m so disgusted I might turn off this New York/Ottawa game out of sheer principle.

    • He was one of the announcers on the first kings game against vancouver. I thought the same thing, “wtf is this homer Ducks dickhead doing on here? Out of all the respected hockey mouths they chose this jackass?” He wasn’t that bad surprisingly. Maybe it was because I enjoyed him having to talk positively about the kings and be somewhat objective for once that prius tailpipe sucking buffoon.

  11. That’s the funniest fucking thing I’ve read… EVER! I absolutely “get it”. I mean, I totally do! It’s CANADIAN humor! It’s why “Great White North” was a hit here. And John Candy. Come on! This is FUNNY. I mean like Ellen Degeneres funny. Like Henny Youngman funny.

Does it matter that I dropped two tabs of “X” an hour ago? I mean, this Carrot Top guy has me rolling on the floor!!!

  12. Next time you put a link in a thread could you please make sue its something interesting enough to get me to read past the first paragraph and a half?

  13. Lol. I laughed most at the endangering first amendment comment. I didn’t click the link to read the whole thing but the part you guys quoted wasn’t that bad. It’s kind of all over the place, I didnt get the second or third jokes. I mean I got the Zooey Deschanel joke but I didn’t get the troll and whatever else. It should have been combining (then some example of quirk). Zooey Deschanel is all quirk, indie quirky hipster etc, I don’t know what a troll doll has to do with that.

I guess it’s not good when you don’t get 2/3 of the jokes, but I didn’t find it that offensive, either. Comedy, especially blog comedy, especially blog comedy about hockey, unless you have something funny to work off in the first place, is pretty difficult. So Im trying to empathize.
