New Jersey Devils @ LA Kings Stanley Cup Finals Game 4 – Climax

Let our forecheck be fierce. Our defense sound, our goalie swift. May our hits bruise bodies, our passes touch tape and our shots tickle twine.

Let our cheers be echoed through the ages.

Prayers heard and answered.

Let the dynasty begin.

Tonight we win the Stanley Cup.

In the name of the Captain, the Son of Philly and the Holy Goalie.

Glory be to the Captain,
And to the Son of Philly,
And to the Holy Goalie
As it was in the beginning, is now,
And ever shall be,
Playoffs with the Cup end. Amen.

Bless us Oh Hockey Gods, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive, from thy bounty, through LA Kings, Our Team. Amen.

Blessed are You, Kings our Team and Team of our fathers, Team of Dionne, Team of Luc and Team of Gretzky, the great, mighty and awesome Team, exalted Team, who bestows bountiful goals, who creates all wins, who remembers the insanity of the fans, and who, in love, brings a redeemer to their fans’ children, for the sake of Our Kings.

In hockey heavens who is great? Thou Kings art great!
On ice who is great? Thou Kings art great!
When thy voice resounds in hockey heaven, the hockey gods fall prostrate!
When thy voice resounds on ice, the NHL kiss the snow!

Peace be upon no New Jersey fan, without mercy or blessing of Kings.

Holy Sutter, Holy Stevens;
We give you thanks
that your Schemes, Attitude and Leadership
Are manifest with Power and Pressure
throughout all zones,
within all lines,
and we accept your Tutelage now,
in defense and forecheck.

I pray to the wunderkind, the play-maker, destroyer of all cap space, the enemy of forwards, of great brilliance, the descendent of Orr and of Borque, the one who shines like the Dewey flower.

I invoke and call upon thee O Father Mitchell,
Lord of long stick, Master of all lanes and gaps.
I invite you to the blue line;
Defend it, sustain it, make it home.

Blessed is he who is The Piece for the sake of wholeness.

As it was,
As it is,
As it shall be
O Thou Carter
Of goals!
With the forehand
With the backhand
O Thou Carter
Of goals!
With the forehand
With the backhand

Our Rookies, King of steadfastness, strengthened Nolan, Voynov foothold, support us against the disdainful people.

I profess myself a Penner-worshipper, a Pennercakean, having vowed it and professed it. I pledge myself to the well-played puck, I pledge myself to the well-delivered hit, I pledge myself to the well-fed monster.

Let us know victory.
For as long as the skates shall glide,
For as long as the chemistry shall flow,
For as long as the goal light shall shine,
For as long as the confidence shall grow,
Let us know victory.

Lord Stanley the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devils.
May hockey gods rebuke them, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Icy Hosts –
by the Divine Power of hockey gods –
cast into defeat, DeBoer and all his Devil spirits,
who roam throughout Los Angeles, seeking the ruin of our hockey souls.

Voices above,
Voices of Fans,
Yell from your couch or barstool;
Voices below,
LA King’s Inner-voices,
Speak from the dreams of childhood;
So may our playoffs be beautiful.

I think over again our regular season.
Our fears,
Those small games that seemed so big,
For all the vital wins
We had to get and reach.
And yet there is only one great win,
The only win,
To live to see the great day that dawns
And the silver light that fills the Cup.

Blessed are you, Kings of Los Angeles, Ruler of the playoffs, who has granted us playoff life, sustained us and enabled us to reach this occasion.

Our Kings, who art on home ice
Hallowed be thy game.
Thy kingdom come, thy wills be done
On our ice as it was on theirs.
Give us this day our daily goals, and forgive no Devil their transgressions
As we pound into submission those who trespass against us.
And lead us past this final round,
Past these evil Devil fucks.

Hail Kopi, full of grace, the fans are with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst players and blessed are the fruit of thy skills, goals.
Holy Kopi, dominant of centers, play for us sinners,
Now until the hour of our Cup.

Go fucking nuts.

  1. Can’t sleep! Can’t eat! I’m freaking out man!
Had to take the day off! No way I could’ve worked today.
    GO KINGS GO!!!

    • I too couldnt sleep for jack sheeeeeeiiiiiiiit. All I could think about was that jam from the beastie boys but the cup version… dun dun….dun..dun….dundun…NO SLEEP TIL……STANLEY!!!!!!!!!!cup.!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. AMEN!!!

I, too, couldn’t sleep. Tossing and turning. I couldn’t stop thinking about the game tonight. There is a special place in heaven for my awesome teach friend who will be covering my class after lunch today. People have been so freak’n cool to me, which would have freaked me out if not for the constant smile I’ve had on my face.

    GO KINGS GO!!!!

    • Your teacher friend is an angel. Take him/her to a game or two next season and he/she will hopefully understand. Who knows…might even become a big fan. :)

  3. One more game to win and let that be today!!!

    GO KINGS GO!!!!!!

  4. For everyone that has nothing to do today but wait for the game, I suppose you can afford 40 minutes of Bob and Jim on their game 3 review:

    GO KINGS GO!!!

  5. For those that are superstitious, this one is for you.

My son who has 20 years under his belt as a Kings fan since his teens will not talk to me anything with me about the Kings since the St. Louis series ended. He told me it was going to jinx everything if he talked anything about the Kings with me. He said he will talk to me about everything since St. Louis after this series is over. That is pretty extreme, but represents how far this can superstitious stuff can go.

    GO KINGS GO!!!

    • at the beginning of the playoffs I dug my Bobby Orr jersey (my 1st hockey hero) out of the closet and hung it with my five Richards jerseys for good luck ~ worked good so far

  6. How do I post a pic?

  7. Nice video out of Canada that maybe most of us in the USA did not get to see. Intro to Game 3:

    GO KINGS GO!!!

    • I absolutely loved this intro on CBC Monday night. Looking forward to what they will have tonight. Have not been able to get anything done at work today…5 hours to puck drop…

      GO KINGS GO!!!

  8. Huge butterflies in my stomach today….HUGE!!!!! Getting ready to eat my pancakes today as tradition says I should. Hockey shrine fully blessed

  9. This was sent to me by a Devil friend:

    Dear LA Kings,

If you could find it in your heart, please do not sweep us. We would like to at least have one win so we can say we didn’t get a good ol’ fashion whooping from a #8 seed.

So with that said, tonight we hope you don’t win the battles along the boards and let up on your fore-check just a little bit. And we promise to shoot a little bit more instead of going for that extra pass. We plan to shoot high in Quick even though come game time we will keep the puck less that 6” off the ice.

We look forward to you rolling over and letting us do our thing. If you let us win 2 games then we will be willing to let you raise the cup when the series returns to LA.

    See you on the ice.

    NJ Devils

  10. I have a sneaky suspicion that Surly and Bobby did this for Will Ferrell to pump us up for tonight???

    GO KINGS GO!!!

  11. Side note. “After all the calls for suspension, fines, permanent bans, beheadings and the like…the Phoenix Coyotes revealed today that Michal Rozival has well….a bruise.”

Looks like Dr Doan and Associates were beyond way off in diagnosing him with a blown out knee. Whining little dogs. At least the 3 teams before you rolled over with class.

    • Correction, 2 teams*. Ugh, mentally im prepared for 3 already assuming those devil worshippers lose and whine tonight…

  12. I wish I could be down there. If anyone has a ticket to the game, I’ll buy my plane ticket down from SF right now. I can’t believe we are here right now at this moment. GO KINGS GO!

  13. Happy Birthday Kings!!! Only 45 years old and still spry! This is it. 45 years to the day since we became a NHL team, we are one win away from winning it all. Let’s GO KINGS!

  14. Let’s get this ass whoopin’ going. The Kings’ rise to Champions will be complete and dynasty begins!

  15. … Until I can post it here, I want this to be somewhere. This is a day I never thought I would see, yet it’s a day I have always been ready for as a fan.

    I am confident. I believe.

    • Wonderful words. Thanks JT. This is an amazing day and we’re all so damn proud of them.

    • Dutch. That was a truly moving piece of literature. This is one that I’ll save and use to express my feeling about this moment to others. Thanks for sharing this.

I hope you’re all as anxious, excited, exasperated, overjoyed, and delirious as I am…I’m sure every single one of us is at a dizzying height.
      Here’s to savoring the moment!

      • Dutch: You authored a priceless piece in tribute to all that counts now, the players, the team, the franchise and us, the people that have been there through thick and thin. I truly respect your
whole loyalty and fidelity to the cause of winning that cup. Thanks.

        GO KINGS GO!!!

  16. Ahhhhhhhh mennnnnnnn.

  17. Man I’m nervous….

  18. Yes!!!!

  19. Uggh! That was awful. They played OK but very tentative. Not up to standards. I was hoping they would win tonight. Mostly for my own nerves but I suspect their nerves were the difference. I suspect Jersey will have more nerves on Saturday and let’s pray the Kings can finish them off. Surly said six originally and that could still happen. But a road record of 11-0 sounds so much better than 10-1….

  20. There is no joy in Mudville.

I blame myself for this disappointment. If only I’d have stayed hidden in the weeds and kept my mouth shut.

But I couldn’t help myself! Everyone else was prissing over the championship and how inevitable it was. So I spread my petals outward and upward to the noon-day sun . . . and brought on a rainstorm.

    Forgive me.

I’ll just hide over here in the corner marked “People are no damned good” until God let’s us win the Cup.
