“How About This Fucking Team Right Here?”

Indeed.

Hockey players are like you and me. They don’t come with a stick up their ass that makes them wince or wither at the sound of heart-felt profanity. That is left for media or those who call themselves journalists (degree or otherwise). As for us Die-Hard fans who just happen to come with a talent for prose, fucking A. You know Surly & I had wide smiles across our face at our Conn Smythe goaltender’s penchant for profound profanity.

Was Quickie drunk? I sure hope so. I hope he won’t be sober for at least a week. The 26-year-old boy who is quickly becoming a man and working his way toward legendary status among L.A. Kings goaltenders deserves not only every award and accolade showered upon him but the right to let loose with or without over 18,000 listening.

  1. Quick is fucking awesome.

    • No, Quick is Suttin’ awesome. The whole Suttin’ team is awesome. Even the Suttin’ boobs came to life to make this mother Suttin’ season just Suttin’ amazing.

Sutt me, I still can’t believe it’s real.

  2. I knew when the camera panned on him as Bob was still doing hte intro, he had that ‘look’. I very much enjoyed his geniune salute to his team. Good for him!!!!! This is a once in a lifetime week, you may win cup again (and I believe they will as soon as next year ) but never for the first time and most likely not with this same group, who appear to be very close. What a feeling that must be, sitting on top of the world.
What annoyed the hell out of me was Patrick ONeal apolozing multiple times…I gave him at least 2 ‘shut the fuck up’s
My 2 favorite moments were the rousing and long (well deserved) standing O that Sutter got and esp that every guy on the team stood up.
And Brown coming back to the podium to salute Bob Miller was totally classy…that was awesome (to borrow a Sutterism)
I miss the team already-how soon is October?

  3. I fucking LOVE Quick!

(Question that doesn’t really matter, but my fucking (Quick-ism) memory won’t let it go…….wasn’t that 8-2 loss to Detroit this season? lol)

  4. Quick looked “comfortably numb” on that speech and with that came the realness to it. Man I love this kid more and more and I agree I hope he stays hammered for the next week just relishing in the win.

  5. If this season could have a title, it would be ‘How about this fucking team right here’. All the expectations, desperation, heartbreak and small glimmers of hope that brought us to this place. What other team had a ride anywhere near as wild as this one?

‘How about this fucking team’ indeed.

  6. Every time I see the Hi-Lite, of Bettman handing the Cup to Dustin, my eyes leak …………… Anyone know why ?

  7. If I was allowed to be drunk watching the Kings win the Cup, the Kings deserve to be drunk watching us enjoy their having won the Cup.

    • Hey Surly,
This is Ryan, we meet at the pantrys resturant. Well first I want to say it was an honor to meet you. The great talk we had about kings hockey and how the team winning the cup that will change the way how we can bring in ufa. Also its like 10:22pm and I only been home for 15 min driving from LA to San Diego, getting wasted and having a good time made this celebration worth it. keep up the great work and I’ll keep reading and throw out some opinions here and there.

      I Love this fuckin team.
      Go kings.

      • Thanks for saying hi Ryan. Love talkin to you guys at games and events and stuff. That was really cool yesterday, even if it was but clusterfucky at times. Glad you made it home safe… Oddly enough you weren’t the only guy I spoke to yesterday who made the drive from San Diego for the parade!

  8. Just wanted to say I love this site and the ability to speak how you fucking want to. I thought it was great hear Quick talk like men do. The pearl clutching cunts on that other site can fuck off if they are that easily offended. It’s hockey in LA and we just won the cup after 45 years, what the fuck do you expect, Disney? Go to fucking Anaheim then.

  9. My favorite part was watching Sutter move back to the boards so he could get a better view of the playoff recap!

  10. The crowd was delirious today, and it was wonderful weird being there to see all of that because I have been there for games only. So, 18,000 plus cheering their heads off was out this out of this world experience.
Me, I would have wanted everybody to get up and speak, yet, it was really well done the whole show, even though it was not rehearsed of course. It was all natural and from the heart, which is exactly how Quick was speaking, regardless of anything.
I could tell the players had a total blast too, where, can you imagine, the young guys, like King, Nolen, Slava, Drew, being there getting the highest award in all of sports!!
I was super happy for the extra crowd roar for King Kong too! What a series he had pulling and pushing his weight and great talent everywhere on the ice.
Anyway, kudos to Quick, because the awards are not over for him as he gets some more in a few weeks.

  11. Hahaha fucking A! Quick is great!

  12. I needed to mention as for Quick, besides the mouth, the dude can throw some heavy punches and fists (blocker hits too) when opponents mess with him.
He is like a pit bull in the nets and will bite into the jugglers. Players in the NHL are on due notice that to mess with him is at your own risk.

  13. This was by far the highlight of the rally. Gotta love the boys when they’re shit-faced!!

  14. Photos from the Parade and Rally – http://flic.kr/s/aHsjzT2XnX

  15. Welcome to the Black Parade.

  16. that was a awesome parade fuck we all slip it is to be fun and it was a blast

  17. Psst!! Hey! LA Kings won the Stanley FUCKING Cup!!!!!!! Trip on that! The trip on it some more! Perhaps a little bit more!!! Ah, fuck it!! WE OWN THIS CUP UNTIL NEXT JUNE!!!!!!

  18. “How ’bout this fucking team” is easy to defend.

On the other hand, if Quicker turned to Heidi Androl, licked his chops, and muttered, “C’mon, baby. Lemme see your chee-chees,” there might have been just a wee bit more flak.

  19. And now I’ve got Jim Fox breaking up to worry about.

I was going pretty good until his emotions went south while he was talking to O’Neal. Now I’m bawling all over again.

    This is fucking sick.

  20. Go see my post on “Christ, More Crying..” If that don’t make you tear, you’re a heartless bastard.

  21. “How about this fucking team right here”….Do they pick nephew Sutter at the 30th pick? It’s not to early to think about, is it?

  22. Quick took the words out of all of our mouths.

  23. Surly, Thank You for the extra tickets you gave me and my son. Because of your kindness we were able to share a moment 45 years in the making. Now I will return my forked tongue to its normal position to spit my venom. Thanks again

    • What an incredible day.

I had the pleasure of sharing beers with two Kings fans that flew out from Finland to watch Game 6 and the parade!

I witnessed a generous act that restored my faith in humanity as Surly hooked up a very young Kings fan with tickets to the rally. You’re a good man, Mr. Surly.

Tuan Jim is still alive and kicking!

I said hi to Scribe, but he just kept walking… (Who’s the surly one now, eh?)

But hey, “THE 45-YEAR DROUGHT IS OVER! THE LOS ANGELES KINGS ARE INDEED THE KINGS OF THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE, THE 2012 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!”

I just can’t hear that enough.

  24. Quick: Walk down memory lane. Who would have known, except the handful that studied everything about him and found him full of promise and talent:

    GO QUICK GO!!!

  25. Quikie was just fine! Drunk off his Ass .. oh yeah.. think they all have been and Deservingly so! Although F… is not a favorite word of mine.. and that is being ironic because it does make it’s way out of my mouth more then I would like.. I realize it is the Strongest word we have to describe an emotion.. Joy/Sorrow/Anger/Hurt/Elation. Knowing that, nobody can say anything bad about our Guys! LOVE and adore them all..
Yesterday was just excellent.. Parade so Fun.. Guys having such a good time.. Sutter really enjoying himself.. I just love that guy.. total 180 from pre hire.. make myslef laugh at that :)
Rally was Lifetime memory.. So So Glad I was there..
    GO KINGS GO!!!
    WE WON THE CUP!!!

  26. More Quick and his days before the Kings, for those not in the know–interesting extra tidbits out today here:

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=634811&print=true

What is a good scary—can he become even better? Why not since that has been his story to date.

    • BTW..Thanks for all the links you great.
Could but can’t be in HockeyKing land 24/7.
The parade pics link was great! Photographer had a
      super viewing spot.
      GO KINGS GO!!!
      KINGS WON THE CUP!!!
WE ARE THE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!

  27. ” working his way toward legendary status among L.A. Kings goaltenders”, he just won the Conn Smythe and the Stanley Cup….I think he already is an LA Kings legend, and THE most legendary LA Kings goaltender in franchise history.

  28. Local Connecticut fish wrap gives some perspective on Quick and other locals that made the NHL:

Stanley Cup Champion Goalie is One of 28 NHL Players Born in Connecticut:

Jonathan Quick played hockey at Hamden High, Avon Old Farms, and UMass before joining the NHL. He has distinguished himself at every level.

  29. For the sake of completeness on the LA Times and its ranking of Quick, they put him at all time #7.

Here is the final list of the LA Times top 10 all time LA Kings:

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-10-greatest-la-kings-wayne-gretzky-20120614,0,7637563.story

Over time Anze and Quick can move up, and eventually Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty, could wind up on this list.
