As far as Monarchs hockey goes, this past weekend can be described in three words; smorgasbord of awesome. Two games played, two wins (one shootout and one regulation), four points, all in front of the IceCaps’ home crowd in the great white north. I would have been happy seeing the guys come away with a 1-1 split, but 2-0 domination? We’ll take it!
So Wednesday night will kick off the Monarchs next stretch where they’ll be seeing action three times in five days. First up is a game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. If you recall one of my previous posts, the Monarchs had yet to beat the Sound Tigers this season; that finally changed in their last matchup. The Monarchs bested the ‘Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Bridgeport’s own ice with a trio of goals, courtesy of their hottest forwards, Colton Yellow Horn, Tyler Toffoli and Jordan Weal.
Like I said before, all studs right now.
The season series against this particular team has been lopsided, but I’d like to think that their big win last time — and the two this past weekend — are indicative of a changing of the guard. Jonesey seems to be back on his game. The forwards are producing. Even the defense have notched a goal here and there (Rodney and Bodnarchuk on Saturday night). Good things are starting to happen. Dare I even say it?
Speaking of good things, hats off — pun VERY intended — to the Kings for their win and to Jeff Carter on his fifth career hat trick. I was really hoping we’d see Bernie get a shutout too, but my guess is somebody somewhere saw the time remaining and said the “s word” aloud.
Don’t they know the first rule about shutouts is just like the first rule of Fight Club?
Go Monarchs (and Kings)!
