Linden Vey, Tanner Pearson and, Wait for It, Top Titty Toffoli Sent to Manchester

Center Linden Vey, left wing Tanner Pearson and right wing Tyler Toffoli have been assigned to Manchester.

Surprised?

If you said, “didn’t see Toffoli being sent down”, remember what we discussed in the last article? Right wing, no room for him unless Lewis is placed on the left of Jarret Stoll and Tyler wasn’t going on the 4th line.

This pretty much settles the forward position on the club.

  1. Tits didn’t look very good last night.

    Not just talking about Toffoli.

  2. ts a CAP game right now, also its a performance game.

It makes no sense to scratch TT on a nightly basis, and I would expect he’ll be up very soon, just because of injuries, or if we start to see significant drops in offense from some of the mid to bottom guys who are going to be looked at for more production.

TT didn’t even play a full year in Manchester, and with all of the work he did this summer, prospect development camp, rookie camp, regular training camp he should dominate in Manchester with Pearson and Vey.

Nice problem to have, but it’s a RW question now and Lewis might not have the finish TT has, he is a perfect 3rd line RW.

The way things stand now, if our defense stays healthy, its going to be bad news for the Pacific Division and the Western Conference.

Scoring will still be a question, so hopefully the Top 2 lines don’t all go into a prolonged scoring drought/ slump for a long time.

Dustin Brown – Anze Kopitar – Justin Williams
Matt Frattin – Mike Richards – Jeff Carter
Dwight King – Jarret Stoll – Trevor Lewis
Kyle Clifford – Colin Fraser – Jordan Nolan

    Robyn Regehr – Drew Doughty
    Willie Mitchell – Slava Voynov
    Alec Martinez – Matt Greene

    Jonathan Quick
    Ben Scrivens

Scratches: Daniel Carcillo, Keaton Ellerby, Jake Muzzin

  3. I’m ok with it. Tits will be back sooner than later. My question is if king doesn’t produce something or anything lewis to left wing toffoli called back up? Vey and pearson next year…

  4. Remember when everyone was so worried when Daryl Sutter got hired as coach because we knew his reputation for being very old fashioned? But then J. Carter, D. King, and J. Nolan completely invigorated the lineup after when he was hired, and to his credit he also instituted a more aggressive forecheck (which still isn’t anything “new school” or innovative, just an old-fashioned strategy that happened to work for this team), and we won a Cup, so what more complaints could there be?

Well, this is the type of move we were afraid of when Sutter got hired. And I understand there are cap implications, but if we didn’t have R. Regehr, a poor addition and retainment that was probably recommended and encouraged by Sutter himself, we’d have plenty of cap space. Not to mention cough cough cough Colin Fraser.

Cap implications aside, we started training camp with innumerable young, skilled forwards, many of whom had success even at the AHL level, pushing for NHL jobs, who’s additions could have improved our team speed, skill, and scoring depth that was the missing link last season vs Chicago. L. Vey, B. Kozun, T. Toffoli of course, who even had success at the NHL level last year, J. Weal, even skill/power hybrids like T. Pearson, M. Kitsyn, V. Zykov, or more complete two-way options like A. Andreoff, who nonetheless could also have improved the talent of the team by replacing Fraser. Sabourin was also an intriguing option.

That’s nine forwards with superior offensive potential than Fraser who tried out. Many are NHL ready. Bob Mckenzie even called Lindey Vey in his tweet “NHL deserving Linden Vey” or something like that.

But there was another type of player that tried out in training camp: the C. Fraser type with no offense. You can probably include D. Carcillo in that category. And then a few rungs above, the Dwight King/Jordan Nolan category, who have more offensive touch, but still not the same level of skill as some of the first group’s forwards.

The final tally? 0 out 9 forwards of the (mostly) more skilled, higher-offensive-potential group made the team.

All of the Fraser/Carcillo group made the team, as did D. King and J Nolan (those two I have less of a problem with).

But in totality, that’s the Daryl Sutter we were afraid of when he got hired. Simple as that.

We are literally starting the season in a new, competitive division, without our best lineup, and it’s because of injury (besides Dustin Brown), but by choice. That’s unacceptable. The only counter-argument, the only explanation, is that “the first group, the skilled group, those aren’t 4th line players. You need bad players, with no skill, on your 4th line. That’s just how the NHL works.” Never mind the fact that, if you couldn’t stomach such talent as Linden Vey on your 4th line, there were still more “traditional” options that would have been upgrades nonetheless such as Andreoff. Even more damning, I give you a quote Ken Hitchcock made last year. From http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/05/02/hrabe-bus-ride-to-the-playoffs-the-blues-4th-line/:

“You’re all talking about our fourth line being our fourth line, but they’re more than our fourth line. They score. Fourth line is an energy line … those days are gone,” Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock said.

“Those are dinosaur lines. They don’t work anymore in the league. The hockey’s too good. Your fourth line needs to contribute, and boy, ours has come through in spades.”

Hitchcock is literally confirming what we feared. In this respect, Sutter’s philosophy on the bottom lines, he is a dinosaur who the game has passed by. Now, the Kings have still beaten Hitchock’s Blues two postseasons in a row due to a superior roster outside of the 4th line… the Blues 4th line was dominant last season, but that doesn’t diminish the point. It’s inexcusable and I’ve lost all hope that Sutter will see the light and ever maximize the talent on this roster, at least not until Colin Fraser’s contract expires altogether and Sutter has no choice.

    • I’m not afraid of Sutter. Matter of fact, I was one who embraced him. I’ll take a ring and a Western Conference Final series in consecutive years any day of the week.

If everyone does their job , we win. If someone struggles for any length of time, then you’ll get your wish.

Why can’t you take a step back to appreciate and enjoy the success we’ve had the last few years? When was the last time we had a team of such skill, character and structure? Call me old school, but I love watching our style of play. We may not be as skilled as some but our relentlessness is second to none. I personally enjoy that type of competitiveness.

Though I agree our third line needs to produce (points) a little more this year, I’m more concerned with Kopitar and Brown finding the consistency we know they can produce. And if Frattin can yield the fruits we think he can, we’ll be just fine. Matter of fact, we’ll be more than fine, we’ll be fabulous.

      • Kingnation, “modcoop” is judging me on purpose, and putting words into my mouse, because he doesn’t like me in general after I disproved a bunch of posts. I don’t even read past the first two lines of his posts anymore. You’re not doing that as much as he is because hopefully you’re not biased against me like he is, but what I’m trying to say is you’re still doing it a little. I never said you were afraid of Sutter. I did use the word “everyone” but it was meant figuratively to describe everyone I remember commenting here about the hiring when it happened. Surly and Scribe’s reaction was negative, and so was everyone else’s I remember. You’re an exception. But you couldn’t necessarily know I meant that figuratively, so no blame there.

But the “why can’t you take a step back and appreciate and enjoy the success?” part is an inference. I never said I haven’t enjoyed the success or appreciated the overall good job Dean and Sutter have done. I gave Sutter credit for his adjustment on the forecheck and the more aggressive attitude of the team as well. All I did was make a critique of this decision he’s making, and the philosophy of his it seems to represent (grinders over skill…and I’m not the only one to have noted that and complained about it, so has Dennis Bernstein and many others, not that Bernstein lends any more credence to the point, in fact it probably devalues my argument but oh well). I don’t know why you even disagree. It’s like you’re not allowed to be negative about anything Kings related anymore because we won a Cup two seasons ago. I just don’t agree with that. I comprehensively proved my point. 0 of 9 skill players on the bubble made the team, 4 of 4 of the other group made it. Those numbers are too one-sided for there to be any other conclusion than that Sutter values the style of play that permeates the group of four over the style ralther than the style of play that permeates the group of nine.

    • You are right! Gosh WTF have I been missing! Hello Phillip, please forget Dean give this guy the GM job because he knows what he is talking about!

“Cap implications aside, we started training camp with innumerable young, skilled forwards, many of whom had success even at the AHL level, pushing for NHL jobs, who’s additions could have improved our team speed, skill, and scoring depth that was the missing link last season vs Chicago. That’s nine forwards with superior offensive potential than Fraser who tried out. Many are NHL ready. Bob Mckenzie even called Lindey Vey in his tweet “NHL deserving Linden Vey” or something like that.”

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY MORE GUYS BOB MCKENZIE HAS ALSO SAID ARE “NHL DESERVING”?

DESERVING IS CORRECT, BUT DESERVING, DEPTH AND CAP ARE WHAT THIS SEASON IS STARTING OUT TO BE. DESERVING DOESN’T SAY WILL NEVER OR WON’T BE IN THE NHL NEXT WEEK OR 4 YEARS FROM NOW.

Hey FUCKWIT YOU NEVER HEARD OF V. ZYKOV, YOU NEVER HEARD OF M KITSYN AND THE ONLY OTHER TIME YOU HEARD OF MOST OF THESE GUYS WAS WHEN THE PRE-SEASON WAS ABOUT TO START OR MYSELF OR ANOTHER PERSON MENTIONED THEM.

ZYKOV IS 18 I THINK PLAYED HIS 1ST CHL SEASON LAST SEASON. HE WAS A 2ND ROUND PICK IN THIS PAST DRAFT. YOU DON’T MAKE THE NHL CLUBS OUT OF CAMP 98% OF THE TIME! YOU KNOW WHY USUALLY THEY AREN’T PHYSICALLY MATURE OR EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE NHL.

THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS, USUALLY ITS WHEN A PLAYER IS PLAYING AT THE LEVEL THEY ARE PROJECTED TO PLAY IF THEY WERE IN THE NHL. THIS WAS WHY CLIFFORD MADE THE NHL ROSTER SO QUICKLY, HE WAS PLAYING WHERE THEY PROJECTED HIM COMING OUT OF THE DRAFT.

KITSYN IS 21 YEARS OLD PLAY A PARTIAL CHL SEASON WITH Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors BACK IN 2010/2011. THE PAST 1 /12 YEAR(S) HE SPENT TIME UP AND DOWN LEVELS OF THE KHL NOT EVEN ENOUGH TO CONTEND FOR ONTARIO.

BRANDON KOZUN HAS BEEN GIVEN CHANCES TO MAKE THE NHL ROSTER AND THE POWERS THAT BE DON’T THINK HE’S A FIT WITH THE KINGS RIGHT NOW.

JORDAN WEAL IS NOW PLAYING IN HIS 2ND SEASON WITH MANCHESTER. HE IS BIGGER THAN KOZUN AND AS WE HAVE SEEN VERY ELUSIVE, BUT THE THING THE KINGS WANT FROM HIM IS TO GET STRONGER SO HE HAS HIS MARCHING ORDERS FOR MANCHESTER AND THEY WILL PREPARE HIM THIS COMING SEASON.

SCOTT SABOURIN: WHERE TO START I GUESS THE 1ST PLACE IS HE ISN’T A KINGS PROSPECT HE HAS AN AHL CONTRACT WITH THE MONARCHS WHICH MEANS DICK. HE IS OPEN GAME FOR ANY NHL TEAM TO SIGN TO AN ENTRY LEVEL CONTRACT. IF THE KINGS WERE SMART THEY WOULD GIVE HIM A ENTRY LEVEL CONTRACT BUT NEWSFLASH HE’S NOT KINGS PROPERTY.

ANDY ANDREOFF WILL HAVE HIS DAY, JUST RIGHT NOW TO START THE SEASON HE IS WITH MANCHESTER, MAYBE HE GETS A CALL UP, MAYBE HE DOESN’T. ONE THING THAT HELPS ANDREOFF IS HE CAN PLAY LW OR CENTER. BOTH ANDREOFF AND SABOURIN BOTH PLAYED FOR THE SAME OSHAWA TEAM A FEW YEARS AGO.

NOW AS FOR THE OBVIOUS VEY/PEARSON/TOFFOLI YOU HAVE 2 GUYS WHO HAVE 1 FULL YEAR IN MANCHESTER IN TOFFOLI AND PEARSON. IS THAT ENOUGH? MAYBE, MAYBE NOT, BUT JUST BECAUSE A PLAYER STARTS IN THE AHL DOESN’T MEAN THAT HE IS DOOMED TO STAY THERE.

VEY HAS 2 YEARS IN AND IS HE READY YES, BUT IS THERE ROOM FOR HIM NOW NO.

YOU KEEP REHASHING VEY/TOFFOLI/PEARSON YOU EVEN TOLD US HOW YOU FELT PEARSON IS A BETTER CENTER THAN VEY EVEN THOUGH PEARSON IS A LW DOESN’T PLAY CENTER.

YOU SEEMS TO BE STUCK OR MAYBE YOUR BRAIN ISN’T COMPLICATED ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THIS SIMPLE FACT: WE ARE NOT THE EDMONTON OILERS WE DON’T NEED TO RUSH OUR PROSPECTS AND RUIN THEM LIKE THE PREVIOUS COACH AND EVEN OUR GM DID WITH SCHENN/SIMMONDS/BERNIER.

THE ROSTER THE KINGS ARE STARTING OUT WITH, WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS IS THE SAME GROUP THAT WON A STANLEY CUP. REGEHR, FRATTIN ARE THE ONLY REAL NEW PLAYERS ON THIS ROSTER THAT WEREN’T HERE.

ITS 82 GAMES AND HOPEFULLY YOU MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. THE ONLY THING WE CAN ASSUME IS THERE WILL BE INJURIES AND SOME PLAYERS MIGHT STRUGGLE AT CERTAIN POINTS OF THE SEASON.

IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS ROSTER ONCE AGAIN YOU CAN GO SOMEPLACE ELSE, FIND A NEW TEAM. THAT MIGHT MEAN YOU AND JON HOVEN MIGHT NO LONGER BE FRIENDS BECAUSE HE ONLY FOLLOWS THE KINGS, AND ITS PLAIN TO SEE YOU SEEM TO THINK JOHN HOVEN IS THE 2ND SMARTEST GUY IN HOCKEY AFTER YOURSELF.

DEAN LOMBARDI DOES NOT LIKE TO RUSH A PLAYER, HE HAS LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY AND THIS HAS WORKED FOR THE KINGS. IF YOU WERE FAMILIAR WITH THIS FRANCHISE AND ITS HISTORY, AND THEN THE PAST FEW YEARS, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW THE KINGS HAVE BEEN BUILDING THIS FRANCHISE THE RIGHT WAY. IS LOMBARDI ALWAYS RIGHT? NO, BUT EVEN THOUGH THE 5 YEAR PLAN WENT A FEW YEARS TOO LONG, AND IT TOOK LOMBARDI FINALLY HAVING TO SAY MURRAY HAD GONE AS FAR AS HE COULD TO FINALLY REPLACE HIM WITH SUTTER, AT LEAST HE DID IT.

A CUP AND AN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP THE PAST 2 SEASONS AFTER JUST MAKING THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE 1ST TIME IN 8 YEARS 4 SEASONS AGO, MY CONFIDENCE IS WITH LOMBARDI RIGHT NOW AND NOT SOME GUY WHO SEES A NAME AND HAS NO CLUE WHO THEY ARE, BECAUSE HE IS TO DUMB TO DO A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FORM HIS OWN OPINION.

      • Modcoop, this is Neil, right? Avatar picture looks the same, and you definitely sound like Neil lol. I’m just going to address your first two sentences for starters. I’ll keep it short for once.

        You said:

        1. “DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY MORE GUYS BOB MCKENZIE HAS ALSO SAID ARE “NHL DESERVING?
        2. “DESERVING IS CORRECT, BUT DESERVING, DEPTH AND CAP ARE WHAT THIS SEASON IS STARTING OUT TO BE.”

1st, this doesn’t make sense. Your 1st sentence questions Mckenzie’s credibility, inferring that just because Mckenzie says Vey is deserving doesnt mean its true, because Mckenzie says that about every prospect and is often wrong (can you even prove that?). I said Vey was deserving and that Mckenzie said so too, and you cant even agree with me on that. You have to question Mckenzie, and disagree with me, just because I said Vey is deserving, & Mckenzie agreed.

Then in your 2nd sentence, you completely contradict your first sentence by saying “Deserving is correct.” So you question my judgement that Vey is deserving, and you say how my respected source who agrees is wrong all the time & can’t be trusted when he says that Vey is deserving, only to say yourself in the very next sentence that “deserving is correct.”

Your first sentence: “Bob Mckenzie says Vey is deserving? Well he can’t be trusted because he’s INCORRECT all the time.
Your second sentence: “Deserving is CORRECT.”

“Incorrect” and “correct” are direct contradictions. You’re not even making poor arguments at this point, thats just plain incoherent. You literally inferred two opposing points in back-to-back sentences. How is any sane person supposed to respond to that?

    • You must be high.

    • Oh yeah that’s right. The colin fraser who scored the first goal in the 2012 SC finals vs the devils. Yeah what a loser. Get a life ya turd burglin pole smoker.

  5. Shut the fuck up you crazy loon.! I’m done with your long ass bullshit. Go somewhere else. Please. I will pay you everytime you get a longwinded thought in your crazy fucked up mind. The team on opening day is the right team with the right players. We are not rebuildind and throwing a bunch of kids out there. Don’t have to. Go eat a bag of shit you crazy fuck! Your negativity reminds me of a chick. Fuck off!

      • To my laugh I must add this though: I’m thankful I don’t hang with the chicks you apparently know. Maybe you should broaden your entourage or something.
Either way I am certainly not worried about the Kings at this stage AT ALL. It’s a long season and we’re lucky to be as deep as we are. Party starts Thursday kids!

    • Regarding Top Titty this here pretty much sums up what Bobby was talking about:

      http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/09/29/pearson-vey-toffoli-to-manchester-roster-nearly-set/

Again, it’s a long season and we have a wealth of talent. Let us be happy and enjoy the team and sport we all love and let things develop as they will. One thing I’m sure of, the LA Kings have every bit of a chance of getting another Cup as any other “contender” (names purposefully withheld). There’s no such thing as a crystal ball that will give us the perfect lineup from day one. Just look at the year we won the Chalice for chrissakes! That’s why the games are played and that’s why we enjoy watching them.
On that note, Darryl Sutter is a badass. He has won the Cup. And he’s more “Concise” than you, me, or anybody reading this awesome blog. I mean, have you heard is interviews!?

Peace in the Midwest lads a and lassies.

I guess I could be named the Zen-man for this post.

    • *hands you a beer. Pats you on the back. Tells you all is good, chill out. Your scowl turns into a smile. I point out the chick in the bar with huge tits. You forget what you were mad about*

  6. Not surprised. Would have been surprised if TT scored a bunch of goals, or was just doing everything but scoring, but he didn’t stand out enough in camp to me. Pearson stood out a little more because he had the puck more. Several times during the game on Sunday I wanted to see Toffoli do something, but he couldnt get open. Like to see him work on his skating a little more. If he could gain a step on nhl level players he’d be a constant threat. He doesnt need a lot of time to create offense. Just first you gotta have the puck. GKG!!! FF was a blast. Glad to see Garon gone. I thought Scrivens looked like a solid backup. Congrats BS!

  7. Can i just remind you all that the year we won the cup we started out with Trent Hunter and Ethan Moureau? Calm the F down people…
The kids will be brought up when they’re ready.
I am just as bummed as the next guy that Toffoli isn’t gonna be in the roster. But this isn’t gonna make or break this team.

  8. Once the goal slump comes on, at it will be very soon, Toffoli and others will be playing. It’s only a matter of time. I don’t see him playing more than 20 games in Manchester this year. Pearson, Vey, and Andreoff will be getting some quality time as well, along with a defenseman or two.

  9. Penner scratched from Quacks opening night game. Haha! Oh, Penner, you haven’t changed a bit.

  10. 12 hours

    GKG!!!
