Lost in the kerfuffle of the playoffs, I have forgotten to post a bit of news that my brothers and sisters in section 315 already knew. I've long said that section 315 is the best section in Staples Center, and not just because I'm there. Ok fine, because I'm there. We're loud, we're fun, and we tend to get bunches of opposing fans to heckle, that and cajole since we are on the side of the ice … [Read more...]

The Dutch Perspective: The Kings’ Head Coaches
... In listening to S&S's most recent podcast, there was a period of discussion involving the current Kings' coach, Darryl Sutter, and the man he replaced, Terry Murray. The discussion, as I heard it, seemed to favor Sutter over Murray. I think it's completely impossible at this stage to make a valid comparison between Murray and Sutter as head coaches, and I've said time and again that … [Read more...]
We Demand Davis Gaines
I meant to do this last week but it got lost in the shuffle. It is not too late to make our voices heard. If you have every heard Davis Gaines sing the National Anthem at Staples Center, then you know, there is no one better that we have at our disposal. Lorelei Cinco comes in a close second. The singing of the anthem, though an antiquated ritual, is important. It sets the tone. It inspires … [Read more...]
Home Sweet Home
It feels like forever and a week since I was at Staples Center. The preseason games were abstract and akin to a day-dream. I miss that walk past the southwest entrance, up the stairs and across the street to the Yard House for a drink and dialogue with friends. I miss the excited faces, wide smiles and palpable anticipation of my more than 18,000 brothers and sisters. Most of all, I miss … [Read more...]
Sharing Is Caring: A Radio App For Kings Games I May Not Hate
Two issues: 1. The reception for KTLK 1150 sucks once you get about 10 miles away from downtown L.A. 2. I have long wanted to listen to L.A. Kings games while watching one live. I may or may not hate the experience. I don't know. I just wanted to try it. … [Read more...]
Section Pride & Elevating The Fan Experience In 2011-2012
Surly is one of the loudest people I know. If Staples Center was filled with 18,118 Surlies, the new speakers could blast any selection of funky music and you wouldn't hear a thing. For goodness sake, last season, he started the DUN DUN DUN DUNDUN chant followed by the opposing team SUCKS and I could hear him in section 119...and he is in 315 (clear across the arena). He did that at least once a … [Read more...]
A Penny For Your Thoughts
The following article was submitted by one of our readers, Ben Lindsey, who besides his love of Kings' hockey has a very specific passion for the home game fan experience. You may remember some of Ben's work, as he edited a pump-up video we all enjoyed so much. Here Ben takes his crack at the written word and implores you to join him in a united stand against what most of us can and have … [Read more...]
TOP 7 WAYS WE CAN HELP THE LA KINGS WIN GAME 6 AT STAPLES CENTER
Going into game 6, it's time to think outside the box. We are 2-1 in the goldfish bowl and 0-2 at home. Thus, I devised the following top 7 ideas to finally win a home game. 1. Boo the team and do that ignorant Beat LA chant. 2. Make Staples Center look like a high school gym. 3. Pretend Joe Thornton is captain material. 4. Do that stupid open and close Sharks' bite thing with our arms … [Read more...]
IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, LEAVE
As expected, a single night's sleep has done little to alleviate the anger and frustration generated by the Los Angeles Kings massive collapse against the San Jose Sharks in Game 3, in which they squandered 4-0 and 5-3 leads in the second period. If you find yourself so sick to the stomach you are convinced this series is over, I have a similar message as Bobby's from last night to convey, … [Read more...]
WHEN THE MUSIC’S OVER – MARK PURDY’S POT SHOTS AT KINGS FANS
A feast of friends. Alive she cried. You've probably already read the gem of an article by Mark Purdy at the Mercury News. If you haven't yet, please, don't bother. I will not post his article, or a link to it, on this website. I don't want that trash clogging up my words. You know, filth by association. What I will do, is mention the name Mark Purdy many, many times. Not for … [Read more...]
HOCKEY HOOLIGANS: LOVE FOR STAPLES CENTER SECTION 330
This is L.A. Our city our home. Los Angeles, We never walk alone. Forever true we'll stay In tribute to our city, No matter where we go This is our home. Imagine the entire song being sang by what looked like 50 but sounded akin to 1,000 Kings' fans at last night's game. That was section 330 and I loved it! In addition to the Briggs' catchy tune, the hooligans of 330 cheered various "L.A" … [Read more...]
GAME PREVIEW: CESSPOOL MEETS BLACK HOLE
In case you were wondering, the cesspool is where the bottom feeders dwell, those who prey on the other weaklings of their world and occasionally get to gnarl on the remains of a once great titan whose pride caused a momentary struggle in the depths. The cesspool this year is made up of six areas, circulating precariously around the darkest of the muck, New Jersey. These other 5 places are, … [Read more...]
WHERE ARE MY ROSTER CARDS?
I know the Kings are making an effort to go green this year. I am all for helping the environment. It's been pretty good to me so far. As anyone who has been to a game at Staples has certainly noticed, one of the casualties of this altruistic effort is that the Kings no longer hand out roster cards upon entry to the games. While I do pride myself on knowing as much as I can about other … [Read more...]
Corey Perry, Joffrey Lupul And Wayne Simmonds’ Revenge – A True Halloween Story
Every once in a while a story comes to us that requires a collaboration of writing and effort. A story that needs some Surly & Scribe. This is such a story and it starts with a picture. A picture can be worth many words. Some, a thousand. Others, less. Once in a while a picture needs just one. This wasn’t an accident. Misfortune did not lend a hand. No Kings’ fan would do as … [Read more...]
KINGS OVERPOWER CANUCKS 4-1
There was something special about tonight. I felt it when I saw the spot lights emanating from Staples Center above Los Angeles. Kings' fans looked hostile. We wore scowls. We looked for a reason to pick a fight but the problem with Canuck fans in L.A. is their men are generally 4'11" and struggle with basic hygiene. Nobody wants to wear the stench of a bloodied whale. That may be a tough one to … [Read more...]
KINGS VS. ATLANTA – HOME OPENER PREVIEW
Put on your shorts and sandals, its hockey season. The Blackhawks... erm... Thrashers, skate into town tonight with the audacious goal of stealing the Los Angeles Kings' thunder in their home opener at Staples Center. The Kings will face off will new lines, featuring rookie Andrei Loktionov playing LW for Anze Kopitar on the top unit. In an effort to boost the Kings goals-for-per-game … [Read more...]
KINGS LOOK TO MAKE BELIEVERS OUT OF THE PREDATORS
The new mantra for Kings fans is quickly becoming "Believe!" Believe that this team's success early in the season is nothing less than what we can expect for the remainder. Believe that we are headed for the playoffs and oh, so much more. Today, in a 1pm matinee, our boys face the Nashville Predators. Nashville got hot after a rough start, winning 4 straight before falling to the Anaheim … [Read more...]
